Here is a short list of truly good bottles below 40 kuna, already available or coming soon.
1. Ilok Cellars Quality Traminer 2017
Ilok clearly had no issues with the harvest. Even their lowest priced Traminer line, the one with a screw on cap, gathered enough sugars to ferment 13.5% alcohols. It is a full, rich, very scented wine, quite atypical for this price range where freshness is the primary expectation. The quality Traminer of Ilok Cellars occasionally wins Decanter medals. Deservedly.

2. Laguna, Malvasia 2017
This absolute Croatian sales record holder (nearly a million bottles annually) decently bore one of the worse recent harvests. Malvasia in a clear bottle with a screw on cap does not have a special structure, but is intensely aromatic, very fresh and commonly easy to drink. Perfect job in the cellar.

3. Medea, Chardonnay 2017
Another Istrian surprise from a tough harvest. Grapes for this charming wine was harvested in August, before the flood rains which ruined the following month in Istria. Medea’s Chardonnay is very fresh and clear at the same time, but with some body breadth and fruit sweetness, typical of the variety in warm climate.

4. Daruvar Winery, Graševina 2017
This is a relatively new Daruvar Graševina in style and looks. The wine is mostly dry, unlike the previous semi-dry versions, very fresh, clear, with accented fruitiness and represents truly excellent value for money. Daruvar Graševina in a bottle with a screw on cap and lively colourful label additionally expands the offer of good domestic wines as mass prices.

5. Ilok Cellars Quality Graševina 2017
Classic of good supermarket bottles. Ilok Graševina in bottles with screw on caps played, and still does, an exceptionally important educational role for the masses looking for good wines. The 2017 harvest is standardly aromatic by variety, purely vinified, with plenty of freshness and crunchiness. Definite bestseller.
