Croatian Civic Initiative in Montenegro Endorses Presidential Candidate

ZAGREB, March 26, 2018 – The main committee of the Croatian Civic Initiative (HGI) on Sunday unanimously decided to support Milo Đukanović, the leader of the Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro, in the forthcoming presidential election which Montenegro will hold on 15 April.

The party representing ethnic Croats said last night that Đukanović “is our long-standing political partner with whom the Croats and other minorities have achieved historic victories.”

The HGI, the only political party of the Croat community in Montenegro and a junior partner in the ruling coalition led by Đukanović’s Socialists, describes him as a man “recognised as a proponent of the European idea in Montenegro”.

The current president is Filip Vujanović. The presidential term lasts five years.
