On Monday, February 13, at the Esplanade Hotel in Zagreb, Vinistra will hold its sixth en primeur tasting of wine where respected winemakers from all of the Istrian peninsula will present the fresh Malvasias from the 2016 harvest, Jutarnji List reported on February 7, 2017.

An introduction will be made into the exceptional wine event by Sandi Paris from the Croatian Sommelier Club and lead them on a journey through Istrian vineyards and cellars through a presentation of the main characteristics of the 2016 harvest. Over 50 wine producers will be on show, joined by several producers of Žlahtina.

Visitors will have the opportunity to taste an exceptionally large number of samples of this indigenous Istrian wine, as well as Žlahtina. They will be accompanied by the OL Istria olive oil and Istrian cheeses Špin.

Nikola Benvenuti, President of Vinistra, pointed out the harvest was very good and added:

“I can say that 2016 Istrian wines will be structures, fresh and more aromatic that they were in 2015, which means we can expect an exciting year. Good climate conditions fuel our optimism that we will have in several year great white and red aged wines from this harvest. I am glad I can add that the daily effort of our winemakers and advancement of quality is recognised on the domestic and international markets where our winemakers achieve new successes which promote Istria even more as a wine region. With en primeur tasting we want to present to eno-gastronomy professionals the harvest’s potential and ease their choice in buying or reserving young wines. So we invite them to visit.”

The Vinistra association organised the first such event in 2012 in Zagreb – tasting of young Malvasias from barrels, to be expected on the market several months later. The tasting is meant primarily for journalists, sommeliers, caterers, wine merchants etc., and in the later afternoon hours for the public as well. It was a great success and has continued with presentations of winemakers from Slavonia and Dalmatia.

The tasting will be divided in two time slots: 13-16h for professionals, while public tastings are open from 16-19h. All interested for the en primeur can register at the www.vinistra.hr webpage.
