Wine Bars in Croatia: Galerija Wine Bar in Odra

Total Croatia News

Updated on:

Odra is a suburb of Zagreb, somewhere half way between the centre of the city and Zagreb airport. It’s also recently become quite a booming business district, with many companies having offices there. And the American embassy is also in Odra; coincidentally the wine bar we’re discussing today is almost across the street from it. It was one of the first wine bars open in and around Zagreb, as it started working in 2004, right when the business district it’s located in started its rapid expansion. Its owner is Zvonimir Koprivnjak, one of the leading Croatian sommeliers. He has, of course, put together the wine list for the bar. And the list supposedly at any point consists of 99 labels offered by the bottle, both Croatian and imported.

The list changes seasonally, but most of it are continental Croatian wines (a lot of graševina, sauvignon, škrlet, traminac etc of the whites and merlot, cabernet sauvignon, frankovka of the reds) made by some of the finest wineries in the area: Iuris, Adžić, Šafran, Puhelek-Purek, Krauthaker etc. There are some wines from the Croatian seaside on the list as well, malvazija, some plavac mali, pošip, syrah etc, produced by Grabovac, PZ Čara from Korčula, Korlat and others. About one fourth of the list are the imported wines, mostly from Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, some from Hungary, the USA, Australia, Argentina etc. Several of the roses are from France, as well as a few champagnes they have on the list. In addition, they have a few Croatian sparkling wines (Tomac, Puhelek-Purek, Grabovac) and a few labels of Italian prosecco.

There are at any point several red and white wines offered by the glass as a special offer, and the prices for both the wines by the glass and the bottles are quite reasonable – for instance, 1 dl of a wine by the glass is under or around 20 kuna.

In addition to the wines, they offer excellent coffee (various flavours and styles), hot chocolate drinks made using their special recipes, selection of beers and cocktails and quite a large array of fruit liquor. And those with a sweet tooth can enjoy desserts made by the Tri užitka (Three pleasures) bakery at the wine bar as well.
