The European Boxing Confederation EUBC decided in 2020 that Croatia would host the European championship. The Croatian Boxing Federation got nine votes, while Ukraine got three and Bulgaria none.
In its last online session, the executive board of the Croatian Boxing Federation decided that Poreč would host the European championship.
Other candidate cities were Zadar, Split, Varaždin and Zagreb. The president of the Croatian Boxing Federation, Bono Bošnjak, visited all potential host cities and spoke to local community leaders and boxing workers in county federations.
The City of Poreč offered the best conditions, it wants to be even more recongised as a city of sports and an important European destination for competitions and trainings, and it has so far stood out as an excellent organiser of major international events such as the European Karate Championship, Balkan Karate Championship and European Judo Cup in 2021.
