Jana entered the last discipline of the heptathlon 800 meters with 299 points ahead of the Hungarian Kriszt, who came to the championship with a lower result than Jana. Jana recorded 2:24.45. British athlete Hembridge was great with 2:14.68. Jana ran her own race with an excellent 2:23.96 for 4th place, her best result ever and deservedly won the gold medal at the European Championships in a competition in which she recorded five of her personal bests, reports Sportske Novosti.
Jana Koščak won 6106 points, which is the best result in the world this year in her age group, ahead of silver medalist Hungarian Kriszt, who achieved a personal record of 5794 points, and bronze medalist German Messing, who won 5690 points. You can see her winning gold here.
“I’m very happy, but a little sad about the javelin throw that didn’t go as planned. But I was good in the high jump and long jump, I achieved my personal record in the 800 meters, so it’s great. I love Jerusalem, the atmosphere is great and there are so many people and I am really happy about this. After the first day, I wasn’t so nervous, because I knew I could do the long jump well, but you still feel like you have to do your best no matter how many points you lead. I could run around 2:40 for 800 meters, but I wanted to win 6000 points myself and I had to watch the Hungarian athlete, so I wouldn’t let her improve too much. I achieved a record and 6000 plus points. My favorite discipline is the high jump, now also the javelin. I’m a little disappointed that I could only do one throw due to an elbow ligament injury because my personal record in the javelin throw is 11 meters further than I threw today, so of course I’m disappointed. All in all, it’s certainly a great feeling,” said the young Varaždin athlete excitedly.
Member of Sloboda from Varaždin, Roko Farkaš, who brought the best junior result in Europe to Jerusalem in the 100 meters and proved it, entered the final as second place in his group with 10.47, which was the fifth overall time of the semi-final. It was a great continuation of his season, and in the extremely fast final, Zakrzewski won the gold with 10.32, Hughes silver with 10.36, and Wallstein the bronze with 10.44. Farkaš took fifth place with 10.47. The very fact that we had a finalist in the 100 meters says it all. He now awaits the decathlon, in which he is also a tough competitor.
Vito Kovačić took part in the long jump final, where he came seventh from the qualifications with 7.21 meters. In the final, he went up to 7.28 meters in his second attempt and eventually took sixth place.
Janko Kišak qualified for 200 meters with 24.29 as fourth place. Lara Juričić was Croatia’s biggest asset in the 100 meters semi-final. She was third in her semi-final group with 11.71, but that was not enough for the final. She was one-hundredths of a second behind the German Just. Vita Penezić was sixth in the 100-meter semi-final with 11.90 and did not manage to reach the final. Mia Wild finished 4th in the 100-meter hurdles semi-final with 13.76 and failed to qualify for the final.
