This Valentine’s Day, the Women on Wine association, active for nearly seven years in all of Croatia, organized an interesting event. Wine&Movies was a dinner set in the newly renovated Café Gymnasium of the Mimara Museum, a project created by WOW member Jelena Bulum, a doctor of film theory at the University of Zagreb.
In an interesting, educational and original manner, but also hedonistic, she combined movie clips with various wines. She also found an ideal partner in Sanja Muzaferija, who studied film theory at the Boston University and spent a summer teaching film at Harvard. As is fit for a women’s wine association, the evening was especially interesting, and to conform with Valentine’s Day, the clips were all romantic and anthological.
This special dinner format with 4 courses served guests superior wines and food with each romantic movie scene. The event brought together those who want more than classic romance with dinner and candles, so the 4 clips, love stories from 4 corners of the Earth, explored what love stories have in common and why fatal love is so attractive in reality and on screen.
Accompanying a clip from La La Land (2015, Damien Chazelle) and the appetizer was a pink sparkling Veralda, presented by the special guest of the evening, winemaker Luciano Visintin. Warm appetizer was served with Krauthaker’s Graševina Mitrovac (2015) and a Chardonnay by Jasna Antunović Turk (2015), with a clip from Casablanca (1942, Michael Curtiz). The main course came with a Tomić Plavac (2015) and Frankovka Dika from Feravino (2016) and a clip from the movie Havana (1990, Sindey Pollack).
In the end the Catering Majetić team served an excellent desert, while plasma screens rolled a clip from Carlito’s Way (1990, Brian De Palma). Krauthaker wines were presented by sommelier and Decanter judge Mario Meštrović, and Feravino wines by their representative Luka Vrga. It was a different Valentine’s, perfectly prepared and memorable, directed by WOW. We can’t wait for the sequels.
