It is one of the most visible and one of the greatest secrets in Hvar Town – the terrace on the ground floor of the island’s top hotel, Adriana. People would walk past it, perhaps glance at it, then walk past without a second thought. I did too, for years.
And then one day, as a guest at the hotel, I came down for breakfast, and I discovered the very best terrace in Hvar Town, for reasons I have described previously. For such a busy town, that terrace really is a gem.
For years, Hotel Adriana has served probably the best breakfast in town, a breakfast which combined with that terrace makes for a truly exceptional start to the day, but the associated restaurant seemed to struggle to establish itself on the Hvar gourmet scene. Various concepts were introduced, but none seemed to set the world on fire.
Until this one…
My first visit to Butchery and Wine Restaurant a few months ago was one of the meals of the year, and certainly an experience I will not forget in a hurry. And it seems I am not alone.
I have been tracking the top restaurants on Hvar on TripAdvisor for some time, and I was delighted to see that Butchery and Wine has entered the top ten for the first time. And looking at the reviews, it is easy to understand why. And I really like the suggestion of combining dinner there with a drink before, or after – or both – at the there stunning terrace in the hotel – Top Bar. Here are the latest restaurant reviews on TripAdvisor – the phrase ‘Great Steak’ seems to appear frequently – so next time you are walking past, why not walk in?
“Great Steaks and location”
Great location looking over the harbour and probably just about the best steak in town. Not cheap but worth it, especially if you combine it with a pre dinner drink at the Top Bar which offers the best high level view of the Harbour and in the same building.

Had a great meal at Butchery and Wine. Lovely view of waterfront from terrace. Delicious complimentary pizza bread. Meaty pizza, tuna appetiser, truffle fries, rose wine by the glass all superb. Definitely give it a try. Good value also.
“If you love a good steak, this place is for you!”
We dined at this restaurant as a recommendation from our hotel. It is in such a nice part of town and has such an amazing view of the Port of Hvar. I would really recommend to get a table outside. Unfortunately it was pouring down rain when we dined, but it was still such a lovely view.
My steak that I ordered was just perfect and probably one of the best steaks i’ve ever had. I eat my steak medium-well and it was cooked perfectly and just melted in my mouth. My husband eats his steak medium and his was so tender as well. The wine we had was great as well and the service was very good. The home made bread and olive oil that they bring out before your meal was so tasty as well. We dined here for our anniversary and I can say that after having an awful rainy day, it really did make our day much better.

We ate here in 2014 and really enjoyed our meal, 2015 was even better!! The steaks are incredible and the best I have eaten here. The waiter was attentive and gave me great advice about the wine he is passionate about, The highlight was the fois gras, the terrine was excellent. Always a pleasure to eat here.

My partner and I went last night, the service was great very professional. I had the “best of lamb” and my girlfriend had what we both described as the best steak we have ever tasted. The lamb was good but if you go I highly recommend you resist the urge to have anything other than their tenderloin.
