A special Croatian anniversary for Alfa Romeo fans in Split.
Even though it was raining in Split on Saturday, not even the bad weather could hinder the 40th traditional gathering of fans of Alfa Romeo cars, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on October 4, 2015. This weekend, more than 80 “Alfists” from Croatia, as well as from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia and Italy, gathered to demonstrate that their love for the cars of the Italian producer is really something special.
The gathering began at the Poljud Stadium at noon. The cars then set off towards the St. Nicholas Pier, near the Port Authority building. They stayed there for about two hours, exhibiting their cars to passers-by, and then headed to Marjan. Although the exhibition of the beautiful Italian cars in the middle of a rainy day mostly attracted just tourists, the procession from the waterfront to Marjan included as many as 57 cars. They succeeded in demonstrating the beauty of their cars, which were quite modern, since most of them were produced after 1990.
“It was love at first drive”, said Božen Marković, president of the Split Alfa Romeo Fans association. “I fell in love with Alfa Romeo as an older teenager, when I first sat in the car and drove it. As the time goes by, you realize that Alfa is something completely different from all the other regular cars”, said Marković who proudly remembers his first model – 1980 Giulietta.
That this car brand is very popular in Croatia is demonstrated by the fact that the Alfa Romeo Fans association has as many as 500 members. Dalmatian fans of the Alfa Romeo brand will go from Split to Zadar and Obrovac, where they will again socialize, visit several tourist attractions and participate in the driving skills competition.
