Croatian Airports Seeing More Passengers

June 20, 2023 – In April this year, Split Airport served almost 156,000 passengers, or 18.5 percent more than in the same month last year, followed by airports with far fewer passengers. Croatian airports started their summer flight schedule in April and worked according to Schengen rules for the first time. They recorded 23 percent more passengers than in the same month last year. The total was 716 thousand, almost half of the total passenger traffic in these airports in the first four months, data from the CBS show.

As Poslovni writes, in all eight Croatian airports and one port, there were 1.6 million passengers in the first four months of 2023. That is 36 percent more than in the same period in 2022. Furthermore, aircraft operations increased by 10.5 percent to almost 23 thousand.

In the first four months there was 2.4 percent less cargo than last year or slightly more than 2,800 tons. Less cargo was transported at the monthly level in April, by 4.4 percent, or 696 tons.

Increase in all Croatian Airports Except Zadar and Rijeka

In April, the increase in passenger traffic at Croatian airports accompanied an increase in aircraft operations, by 8.1 percent, to slightly more than 8,500. Most airports saw more passengers than last April, while only Zadar and Rijeka had fewer.

Zagreb airport is in first place with 320.2 thousand passengers, or 26.2 percent more than in April last year. The second is Dubrovnik airport, with almost twice as many passengers as Zagreb or 167.2 thousand, which is an increase of 42.5 percent.

In this year’s April, Split Airport served almost 156,000 passengers, or 18.5 percent more than in the same month last year, followed by airports with far fewer passengers.

In April, 51.3 thousand passengers passed through Zadar airport, or 12.6 percent less than last year. Moreover, 13.7 thousand passengers passed through Pula airport, an increase of 18.6 percent.

Osijek saw a significant increase in the number of passengers of 50 per cent compared to last year’s April, with almost 1,700 passengers. The only two island airports/ports in Croatia, Brač and Mali Lošinj, are at the back end.

Data from the State Statistical Office (CBS) also show that in April 2023, Croatian airports achieved the highest international passenger traffic in cooperation with the airports of Germany, the United Kingdom and France, all of which had more passengers than in April 2022.
