July 25, 2023 – After 35 years, Varazdin is once again embarking on significant renovation and investment projects in its Old Town. Part of the renovations will be financed entirely from the approved funds of the Ministry of Culture and Media as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Program.
After the energy reconstruction of the Varazdin City Hall, in cooperation with the City administration, the Regional Energy Agency North, and the Varazdin City Museum, the old town also received co-financing for the energy renovation, writes Index.
Renewable Energy Sources for Heating
The grants for the renovations of the Old Town amount to almost 950 thousand euros. The project will last 32 months, and the works will include the thermal insulation of the ceilings and walls towards the attic.
“What is most important and what affects the very quality of the stay of the users and guests of the museum is the replacement of the complete external carpentry with a more energy efficient type, and in accordance with the conservation conditions to maintain the original appearance. The entire building will be heated using renewable energy sources,” said Damir Mandić, an expert from the Regional Energy Agency North, adding that a heat pump will also be installed.
Mayor: Old Town will be a source of pride for all Varazdin residents
The Mayor, Neven Bosilj, pointed out that this is the most significant monument of public cultural property that exists in the City of Varazdin.
“First, the Gothic tower was renovated, and now the Renaissance entrance tower is being renovated, which will be completed before Spancirfest. The city has also provided funds in the budget for the renovation of the southern roof, which is in bad condition. Now with this project, we will complete the entire story and ensure that for the next 30 to 40 years, the Old Town is in a condition that can be used normally. We also want it to be a source of pride for all Varazdin residents,” said Bosilj.
The director of the City Museum, Miran Bojanić Morandini, hopes that the work on the roof restoration will start in the fall before it starts raining a lot more.
At the same time, he explained that the process of energy renovation of this type of building is much more demanding and complex than usual.
