Rijeka Saw More Tourists in September 2026 Than September 2025

October the 9th, 2026 – Rijeka recorded 22,690 tourist arrivals in September, which is two percent more than in September 2025.

In addition to encouraging growth in arrivals, Rijeka’s number of overnight stays remained almost unchanged at 61,672. The strongest growth was achieved among domestic guests. Index reports that there were 4,035 of them recorded in September, or 17 percent more than last year, and they recorded 7,604 overnight stays, a rise of 15 percent. Foreign tourists accounted for 82 percent of all arrivals in September, and domestic guests for 18 percent.

From the beginning of the year to the end of September, Rijeka achieved 193,716 tourist arrivals and 568,868 overnight stays. The number of arrivals remained at last year’s level, while overnight stays were one percent lower. Domestic tourists also recorded strong growth in this period. They achieved 38,747 arrivals, 14 percent more than last year, and 76,655 overnight stays, a rise of 13 percent. Foreign guests recorded 154,969 arrivals and 492,213 overnight stays and account for 80 percent of all arrivals and 87 percent of overnight stays.

Among foreign markets, Germany leads with 71,764 overnight stays in the first nine months. It is followed by Poland with 56,842 overnight stays, Italy with 41,053, Hungary with 30,437 and Austria with 25,932 overnight stays. In September, Germans were also in first place with 9,945 overnight stays, ahead of Poles, Italians and Austrians. The most overnight stays in the first nine months were recorded by guests aged 19 to 30, a total of 137,776, or 24.22 percent of all overnight stays. They are followed by guests aged 41 to 50 with 103,645 overnight stays and those aged 31 to 40 with 97,749.

Foreign tourists in Rijeka stayed on average 3.18 days, domestic guests 1.98 days, while the overall average was 2.94 days. The largest share of overnight stays was recorded in private accommodation – 335,776, or 59.02 percent of total traffic. Hotels had 145,876 overnight stays, hostels 41,573, and non-commercial accommodation 43,094 overnight stays. The data shows that Rijeka still achieves the largest part of its tourist traffic from foreign guests, while the domestic market is recording noticeably faster growth this year.
