April the 1st, 2026 – Economy Minister Tomislav Ćorić has stated that it’s looking like Croatia will continue to be one of the countries with the highest inflation rate in the Eurozone, and that it poses real concern.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, inflation rose to 4.8% in March, the Croatian Statistical Office announced in its first estimate. The data was commented on by Finance Minister Tomislav Ćorić, who said that Croatia will probably continue to have one of the highest inflation rates in the Eurozone, which he assesses as deeply discouraging, N1 reports.

The latest Eurostat data shows that Croatia had the highest inflation rate in the entire Eurozone in March, followed by Lithuania with 4.5%.

“The consumer price index is like this because of the impact of rising energy prices worldwide, including in Croatia. The services sector is also contributing to this,” explained Tomislav Ćorić, adding that the price of industrial products is still falling.

“Croatia will have a slightly higher inflation rate than the Eurozone average, probably the highest of all, according to the information I have,” said the minister, adding that this was far from encouraging.

Ćorić added that no EU Member State can avoid an imported inflationary shock. “That level of inflation is not encouraging, but the structure of the economy opens up our flanks in situations like this,” he pointed out.

“The Croatian economy is ready and functioning normally, and this is a consequence of the shock of the war that is happening across the Middle East. We hope that this conflict will stop. If it doesn’t stop, the whole of Europe will have a problem with inflationary movements. Some countries will also have a problem with the supply of energy sources, thankfully, Croatia is not among those countries, as our supply has been secured”, concluded Ćorić.
