May the 9th, 2026 – Food waste is an enormous issue on a global scale, but there are those actively fighting it. The Croatian food-tech startup Crumbs has successfully secured a 600,000 euro investment.

The Croatian startup Crumbs is commendable in that it operates a digital platform that connects restaurants, bakeries, shops, and other food businesses with consumers who can buy high-quality surplus food at significantly discounted prices. In many cases, the prices end up falling to 50% or more off.

Founded by Antonio Matušan and Robert Bukvić, the Croatian startup Crumbs has grown at an excellent rate since initially launching. Interested users need to download the Crumbs app to find so-called “rescue packages” of fresh meals, baked goods, and other products that would otherwise simply be thrown away at the end of the day.

investors showed their interest through a handsome sum

The latest funding round for the praiseworthy Crumbs startup was led by AYMO Ventures, and following the investment, Crumbs’ valuation is now estimated to stand at several million euros. This latest capital injection will be used for three main goals, which are strengthening operations and growing market share in Croatia, engaging in regional expansion into neighbouring countries and accelerating the development of new tools.

inventory management and better predictability

Beyond the consumer app itself, Crumbs is busy working on tech-powered solutions to help supermarkets and retailers better predict demand and manage their entire inventory. These tools aim to prevent surplus food from being created in the first place, rather than just redistributing it or worse still – just throwing it away and wasting its potential entirely.

By combining the marketplace model with predictive models, the startup is sincerely hoping to create a more efficient and sustainable food supply chain in Croatia and in the countries it intends to expand to soon. The co-founders of Crumbs have understandably expressed their excitement about the investment, seeing it as validation of both their business model and the growing awareness around food waste across not only Croatia but the region.

how does crumbs actually function in practice?

Users can use the Crumbs app to browse nearby offers, purchase all kinds of discounted packages, and pick them up (delivery options are currently expanding). Businesses on the other hand can use the app to sell surplus food that would be thrown away otherwise, recover part of its value, and contribute to sustainability goals on a larger scale.

The Crumbs platform is completely free for consumers, while businesses pay a small commission only on successfully sold packages. This latest success story puts Crumbs among the most promising Croatian food-tech startups and highlights growing investor interest in sustainability and climate-focused solutions across the region.

With food waste remaining a major global issue, initiatives like Croatia’s Crumbs are gaining plenty of global investor attention for offering practical, everyday solutions that benefit both the environment and consumers’ wallets.
