August the 19th, 2026 – Business owners and private landlords are seeking relief and compensation after the fire that has ravaged the Omiš area.

The well known association Glas poduzetnika (UGP – Voice of Entrepreneurs) has proposed that the Croatian Government adopt an emergency package of measures that would temporarily relieve entrepreneurs affected by the fire in the Omiš area of tax, tourism, chamber and local charges.

Poslovni reports that the association believes that assistance must not be limited only to those whose facilities physically burned down, because damage in the affected area is also suffered by those whose facilities remained intact but who, because of the fire, were left without guests, access, income or the possibility of regular business operations.

“Such a package of assistance should not have to be reinvented every time. Croatia needs a predefined model of automatic relief and assistance to the economy in the event of fires, floods, earthquakes and other major disasters. When a catastrophe occurs, entrepreneurs must know what they can expect, and the state what it must do – without months of waiting for special decisions,” states UGP, which joined the request for urgent assistance at the initiative of the association Spasimo male obiteljske iznajmljivače – SMOi (Let’s Save Small Family Landlords).

They, for their part, are demanding exemption from payment of tax and other charges at least until the end of 2026, while for 2027 they are asking that the need to continue these measures be reassessed according to the actual situation and the speed of recovery of the affected area, noting that “one cannot expect a family from whom the fire has taken the season and income to continue paying the state as if nothing had happened.”

It should also be added that the Zagreb City Administration has announced that Zagreb will donate 130 thousand euros in aid to Omiš.
