The celebrations of the city’s patron continue – here is the overview of today’s events.
Dover has the English Channel, Split has the Brač Channel, Dover has Dover Castle, Split has Diocletian’s Palace, and two the cities have officially been friends since the year 1958. On May 4, 2016, a photo exhibition will be open in Split City Hall named “Pictures of two cities”. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 11 am.
At noon sharp, as we pointed out yesterday, it is the time to be at Peristil, as a chance for some more breathtaking photos will be available. A free climber will climb the 57 meters high Sv. Duje bell tower to raise the Croatian flag on its very top. Yes, there is an easier way, but this is a tradition in Split, and as it is written in the Split Tourist Board guide: do not try this at home!
Marko Marulić City Library has prepared two events for the youngest ones. The first one is the art workshop for kids who want to make pictures of Sv. Duje bell tower (with or without the free climber) in its branch library Trstenik at 3 pm. Another one is the trilingual reading of a tale about Sv. Duje, written by Božo Ujević. It will be presented in Croatian, English, and German language by pupils of the Little School of English and German language.
The Croatian National Theatre is showing the first of four stagings of “Spli’ski Akvarel”, the most famous operetta composed by Split’s own Ivo Tijardović tonight. If you are fast enough, you have a chance to get the tickets for this evening’s show, as we are informed there are just a few left.
The evening will be rounded up with the concert by Filip Dević Choir, one of the most famous city’s art clubs, winner of many international awards, and if you want to hear some powerful melodies sang in the Dalmatian way, Riva is the place to be at 8.30 pm.
