Overview of the today’s events celebrating Split’s patron St. Domnius.
As we come closer to the big day, festivities in Split continue. On May 6, 2016, it all starts with a memory of the events from 25 years ago when the Workers Unions organized a protest in front of the Banovina building, now the City Hall (Yugoslav Army Headquarters in that time). It was a protest against Army’s blockade of Kijevo and Vrlika, villages near Sinj, and it became a massive protest which turned out to be more than just the Union one. Commemoration of the event is scheduled at 11 am.
At noon, sharp, the Croatian National Theater will be the venue for the solemn session of the City Council, with a respectful guest list. The City awards will be presented at the session, annual ones, and the lifetime achievement awards.
The city library has prepared more workshops for kids and lectures about traditional kid’s games. Split City Museum is presenting the Collection of Ivica Crnogorac – Braco “In honour of Sv. Duje”, with the exhibition opening at noon in Dioklecijan Gallery. Two more exhibitions will be opened in Skočibučić – Lukaris Palace, 7.30 pm.
The day is concluded with two concerts; there is one at then Croatian National Theater, where one can enjoy Dalmatian traditional music performed by klapas. For those who prefer rock music, one of the most popular local bands, Providenca, will entertain Riva’s visitors starting 8.30 pm. As we have attended their shows before, one cannot be sure when it will end.
