Split Mayor Baldasar Criticizes SDP President Milanović

Former head of the SDP branch in Split has some harsh words for his former party boss.

Split Mayor Ivo Baldasar gave an interview on Sunday in which he commented on the recent decision by SDP Presidency to dissolve the Split branch of SDP, reports HRT on May 15, 2016.

“Unfortunately, I was expecting this. I am going to form my own independent electoral list and invite some of SDP members to join me. I expect that some of them will accept my invitation. For now, I will not found my own political party”, said Baldasar.

He said that he now finally felt free. “Everything is becoming more personalized, there are no longer any rules. My relationship with Milanović used to be good. We did not agree on all things, but there were no quarrels between us”, he said, adding that the communication between them stopped after the elections.

Baldasar said that Milanović offended him on a personal level. “I told him that this was not the way to do it, and I told him how I felt about it in a Dalmatian way. He did not call me an Ustasha, but something even worse”, said Baldasar.

However, Baldasar said he thought HDZ was closer to autocracy. “Karamarko is in a league of his own. In SDP, there were at least attempts at democracy”, he said. Talking about the recent allegations about possible cooperation of Karamarko’s wife with MOL, Baldasar said: “I see no logical explanation for that, institutions should explore it more deeply. It is a very serious affair”, he said.

Baldasar agreed with the claims of the “My Hajduk” Association that Minister of Education and Sports Predrag Šustar was indirectly protecting Zdravko Mamić, the boss of Dinamo Zagreb. “Mamić obviously knows a lot about football, but he has imposed a way of behaviour which includes all kinds of things”, he said.

Finally, Baldasar said that Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić was doing a good job. “I like that fact that he does not have any ideology, just like me.”
