It seems that tomorrow we might know how the government crisis will end.
The government crisis, which culminated on Friday when Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković demanded the resignations of deputy prime ministers Tomislav Karamarko and Božo Petrov, continued today with numerous meetings being held. After this morning’s meeting with Prime Minister Orešković and Parliament Speaker Željko Reiner, President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, who cancelled her scheduled official visit to Lithuania, met this afternoon with both HDZ president Karamarko and MOST president Petrov, reports Večernji List on June 6, 2016.
In early evening, a meeting of HDZ leadership ended. Party secretary general Domagoj Ivan Milošević spoke to reporters. “We have made important decisions, and party president Karamarko will announce them on Tuesday”, said Milošević, adding that HDZ had always made the right decisions. “Croatia does not have any more time for this, and Croatian citizens no longer have any patience”, concluded Milošević.
HDZ Parliamentary Group president Ivan Šuker said that the party had not yet officially submitted to Parliament a motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković, which was mentioned as a possibility after party president Karamarko said that the Prime Minister no longer had the confidence of his party. “Nothing new has been submitted to Parliament, and therefore there is no need for me to convene a session of the parliamentary group”, said Šuker.
In the meantime, Serbian minority MP Milorad Pupovac said that his party, which has two MPs, will not take part in any coalition reshuffle. “Any reshuffle would just prolong the agony. Croatia needs a new start”, said Pupovac. His statement lowered already small chances that HDZ could make a new ruling coalition without MOST.
Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić said that the most honest solution to the current crisis would be for the government to resign and for a new parliamentary majority to be formed if possible. Otherwise, new elections would be best.
