Croatian Software to be Used in the US Presidential Elections

BlinkID scans any type of photo ID in just 3 seconds

 

BlinkID technology, developed by a Croatian company MicroBlink, will be used in the upcoming US presidential elections. This was confirmed by MicroBlink and published by Net.hr on January 14, 2016.The contract between MicroBlink and partner companies in the US has already been signed. “BlinkId is the only software in the world which enables the user to scan and process data from Identity cards, passports or drivers licenses in 3 seconds using nothing more than a mobile phone. This software turns any iPhone, iPad or Android phone and tablet into the fastest personal id scanner in the world” says the co-founder and Board member of MicroBlink, Izet Ždralić.

This is not the first mega successful project developed by MicroBlink. They rose to IT stardom with a hugely successful PhotoMath application which has more than 22 million downloads to date.

MicroBlink’s US partner is an IT company working on innovations designed to improve the electoral process and before the contract was signed they requested several changes in the BlinkId application: “They asked us to make some slight adjustments so that we can support various forms of ID since they have different AAMVA standards” Ždralić added.

BlinkId will greatly improve the voting procedure since the electoral committee will now no longer manually have to check whether the voter is on the list, instead the process will now be atomized with  simple scan of a valid photo ID. It is not a “stand alone” application, it is a technology built into other applications. It can be used for anything from registering on mobile services and apps, hotel check-ins, online shopping etc.

 

Unfortunately, Croatian authorities have not show any interest in the application yet, and when asked whether we can expect electronic voting in Croatia anytime soon Ždralić answered: “As far as IT achievements are concerned, we’re not far behind; we export 90 of our “know-how”. However, as far as our mindset goes regarding acceptance of new technologies that make our lives easier and speed up processes, there’s still a lot of room for improvement”.
