After a 10 year successful run in Moscow, a play based on A Streetcar Named Desire comes to HNK Zagreb on February 12.
As announced by the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb on January 19, 2016, the famous Moscow Mossovet State Academy Theatre will give a visiting performance of their critically acclaimed play In the Vastness of Tennessee W On Friday, February 12, 2016. The play was created using the motives of Tennessee Williams’ renowned drama A Streetcar Named Desire and Shugoro Yamamoto’s novel A Town Without Seasons (Akira Kurosawa’s Dodes’Ka-den was based on this novel).
Director and screenplay writer is Yuri Eremin while the leading roles are played by Valery Jaremenko (Stanley), Yekaterina Guseva (Stella), Yevgenia Krjukova (Blanche) and Dmitry Zhuravliev (Mitch).
Just like most works of Tennessee Williams, this play centres around the clash between sensitive poetic nature of its main protagonists and the cruel reality that surrounds them.Director and screen writer Jurij Jeremin presents a very layered depiction of the family triangle while the play itself has elements of comedy, drama and even tragedy. The play is very vibrant, filled with live music and, as the author often states, it is an encyclopedia of feelings in which we find all the elements of a relationship between a man and a woman: passion, love, lust, tenderness, attractions and impulsiveness. All these emotions are perfectly expressed by the artistic trio Jevgenija Krjukova, Jekaterina Gusjeva and Valerij Jarjomjenko.
