The Ministry of Tourism for the 2016/2017 school year, and under the programme for encouraging staff education in catering and tourism, will co-finance 245 students to be educated in hospitality and tourism professions and occupations related to the development of special forms of tourism. The Ministry, since first implementing this program in 2008, has thus far co-financed 703 scholarship holders.
These scholarships have been carried out by the Ministry in cooperation with companies, hotels, tourist agencies and county chambers so that each stakeholder accounts for 50 percent. At this year’s public call, 6 companies and 1 county Chamber of Crafts will participate, reports HRTurizam.
This year’s participants are Adriatic Luxury Hotels dd, Dubrovnik (10 students – chef, pastry chef, waiter) Maistra dd, Rovinj (8 students – chef, pastry chef, waiter), Imperial, Rab (4 students – cooks), Laguna Novigrad dd, Umag (1 student – commercial tourism and hospitality) Valamar Riviera Hotels Inc., Porec (212 students – waiters, cooks, confectioners, tourism and hospitality sales representatives), Eridanus Ltd., travel agency, Kastel Stari (1 student – commercial tourism and hospitality), Chamber of Crafts of Varazdin county (9 students – chefs, commercial tourism and hospitality).
“High-quality workers in the tourism industry are the basis of the continued growth and development of Croatian tourism, and it is through this program that we encourage the education of students and pupils in vocational education which we know is important and necessary. We are also working on developing centers of competence which we can finance with EU funds. From the funds, it will be possible to finance regional centers which will modernize vocational education in tourism and catering to the needs of the labor market and raise its quality in order to increase the employability of students and opportunities for further education,” stated Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli.
Cappelli added that at the basis of this program, students are entitled to a maximum of 500 kuna monthly stipends from 1 September to 30 June next year, and students at the maximum are offered 800 kuna from 1 September of the current year to 31 August next year.
