IKEA has donated all the furniture from the store.
As planned, a temporary IKEA store which was opened in the centre of Zagreb has closed its doors. IKEA Croatia decided to donate all the furniture from the “pop-up” store worth 250,000 kuna to two charity organizations. New Future Association will use the donation to furnish six houses in which it cares for children without parental care, while the Women’s Help Now Association will equip its centre for women and children who are victims of domestic violence, reports Poslovni.hr on January 12, 2017.
“IKEA wants to actively participate in the life of the communities in which it operates and contribute to creating better quality of life, especially for the most vulnerable groups of people. This includes providing help in solving serious social problems which, unfortunately, are faced by almost all communities worldwide. For some victims of domestic violence, the only possible escape from the abuser is a shelter whose location is a secret. That is the reason why we have decided to donate some of the furniture which was presented at our temporary store to Women’s Help Now Association and to its shelter for victims of domestic abuse. Also, IKEA believes that every child has the right to have a home. New Future Association, which provides care for children without parental care and which is specially focused on providing care for siblings who should not be separated, is trying to do precisely that. Children are accommodated in six houses throughout Croatia where they live in communities with educators. Therefore, we have made the decision to donate the furniture to this NGO as well”, said Igor Štefanac, public relations manager of IKEA Croatia.
The temporary IKEA store in the heart of Zagreb was opened in late October at Ilica Street. During a little more than two months of work, it attracted almost 60,000 visitors who wanted to see for themselves the company’s solutions for a better everyday life at home. In just 58 workdays, the store organized almost 50 different activities and workshops for children and adults, with the participation of more than 3,000 members of the IKEA FAMILY loyalty programme.
Of course, the main IKEA store in Zagreb remains open.
