Voting for the 2017 Best European Destination on the European Best Destinations website begins in a couple of days, and we continue our look at Croatian nominee Stari Grad through our series of daily photos.
Connectivity is essential for any quality destination, and Stari Grad is the best served location on Hvar in that respect, maintaining three large car ferries all year, with a considerable increase during the season – usually from the end of May until October. During this time, in addition to the two-hour crossing from Split, there are also direct services from Italy by car ferry and hydrofoil, as well as the reintroduction for 2017 of the Rijeka, Zadar, Split, Korcula, Mljet, Dubrovnik.
No you have no reason not to visit!
The harbour is located just outside the town, so traffic does not interfere with the peaceful way of life, and it is a spectacular entrance through the deep Stari Grad Bay, all 8km of it. No wonder it was so attractive to the Ancient Greeks when they sailed in 2400 years ago.
