Continuing our look at some of the beautiful villages and townships close to the City of Dubrovnik, let’s look at neither a town or a village, but somewhere that rivals them both. A beach.
A mere 30 minute drive west of Dubrovnik takes you to the tiny old village of Brsecine and its beach, Veliki Zali, its name literally translating to ”big pebbles” – this idyllic bay, located just off the D8 Adriatic road is one of a kind. Flanked by rugged, pine covered mountains on one side and the sparkling blue Adriatic on the other, this stunningly beautiful white pebble beach feels as if miles away from the humdrum of civilisation. Hardly seen from the main road, it provides the ultimate escape from the world when the temperatures soar and the crowds grow with it.
The beach is well equipped with a shaded restaurant (Veliki Zal) serving an array of hot and cold drinks as well as a variety of food, from fish to grilled meat to pizza and salad during summer. It is popular with locals and visitors alike, the sight of motorhomes and vans that have been driven here all the way from Holland, France and Germany is not at all uncommon. It has full restroom facilities and parasols, sun loungers, kayaks and other watersport equipment can easily be obtained right there on the beach, for a fraction of the price you would pay closer to the city. Despite its numerous facilities, Veliki Zali is intimate, usually not crowded and very peaceful, it is rightly famed for its perfect position in relation to the sun and the purity of its bay and natural, evergreen covered surroundings.
Along with food, drinks, sun and sea, you will also be offered absolute peace of mind with a completely free, completely safe carpark shaded by natures own parasols, trees. Veliki Zali is also perfect when it comes to venues for private parties, buiness events and pretty much any other celebration, the beach has even been used for small wedding ceremonies in the past and staff do all they can to ensure a proper and relaxed experience. Seating for up to 120 people is available, making this a great choice for get togethers of a larger scale in a private setting.
