Nikola Mektić and Brian Baker received their first ATP World Tour titles on Sunday at the Memphis Open.
Croatian Davis Cup team member Nikola Mektić and American Brian Baker won the league title in doubles at the ATP tournament in the US city of Memphis where they defeated domestic pair Ryan Harrison and Steve Johnson 6-3, 6-4 in the final. Their win prevented Harrison from winning the double crown as he previously won in singles, defeating Georgian Nikoloz Basilašvilija 6-1, 6-4, reports Vecernji List on February 20, 2017.
Mektić and Baker’s appearance in Memphis was their second tournament together and the first ATP title for the both of them. Before Memphis, Mektić and Baker played together at this year’s Australian Open where they reached the knockout stages and lost to the Bryan brothers. Last year, Mektić was one step away from an ATP title but was defeated in the finals in Umag for the Croatian Open paired with compatriot Antonio Šančić.
In Memphis, the Croatian-American pair arrived without dropping a set, and in addition to winning 250 Emirates ATP Doubles Rankings points, Mektić and Baker will share $34,810.
Nikola Mektić is 28-years-old and from Zagreb. After this match, he is currently ranked 56 in ATP ranking for doubles.
