Another international success for Croatian diver.
The most successful Croatian freediver of all times Goran Čolak was again the best in Dubai. At one of the most prestigious international competitions – the famous Fazza Freediving Competition which marks the start of the international diving season, Goran has achieved a remarkable result and has again climbed to the highest step on the podium.
The event in Dubai was organized and funded by the Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed. For years, it brings together the world’s elite freedivers, and this year’s competition was stronger than ever.
In an attractive discipline of holding breath at the bottom of a large pool at the Hamdan sports centre, Goran excelled in the qualifying round (10:07), and in the final he convincingly beat all competitors and achieved an extraordinary result of 10:19 – in single breath. Goran was better than Branko Petrović from Serbia (9:34), a specialist in this discipline, and his great rival Mateusz Malina (9:56) from Poland.
This is Goran’s best result ever in Dubai, which enabled him to keep his title of “the ruler” of this prestigious diving competition, where in the past seven years he has won only the top position.
“I knew I was ready and strong, but I waited patiently for my chance. When you look at results of the three best competitors, this was not only the strongest competition ever held in Dubai, but also the strongest competition in this discipline ever held in the history of freediving”, said Čolak.
Goran will next compete at the National Pool Championships in early April, and then at a series of important international competitions. Judging by the successful start, one thing is certain: he is more than ready to hold his breath and achieve breathtaking results.
