July 13, 2026 – The renovation of the hotels of Hvar Town continues, with the flagship family and couples Hotel Amfora Hvar Grand Beach Resort boasting a new look.
Nice things are happening in Hvar Town, and Croatia’s premier island is enjoying a more upscale tourism experience after years of flirting with party tourism. And nowhere is this increase in quality better symbolised, perhaps, than in the corresponding rise in quality of the main hotel group, Suncani Hvar Hotels, the biggest employer on the island, and which operates no less than 7 hotels and resorts in the town.

It is incredible to think that the hotels were used to house refugees and internally displaced people just over 30 years ago, with all hotels run by a State company and only 2- and 3-star. The transformation since then has been nothing short of incredible, with the hotels finally offering the quality and luxury that befits such a top destination.

The major luxury upgrade was back in 2019, when the first 5-star hotel on a Dalmatian island, Palace Elisabeth Hvar Hotel, opened off the main square, replacing the former 2-star Hotel Palace. And 2026 looks set to be a significant year in the tourist upgrade from Suncani Hvar Hotels.

The most significant development will be the opening of Sirena Resort, a 4-star resort in quiet private bay north of the town, which is scheduled to open on August 1, and which will offer a new, and unique experience for guests – the tranquility and waterfront chill of Hvar the island, but with the accessibility of the town itself, with free and regular transfers.

There is change, too, at perhaps Hvar’s most iconic (and largest) hotel, Hotel Amfora Grand Beach Hotel, whose cascading pools are among the most popular images of the town. Located a pleasant 10-minute stroll from the main square, Amfora has long been a firm favourite for families and couples, with its fabulous views of the Pakleni Islands, as well as the popular Hvar Beach Club, a fabulous use of the 1930s colonnade which is also one of the island’s most popular wedding destinations.

The Amfora upgrade features redesigned room interiors and fully modernised bathrooms. Warm cream and brown tones, paired with refined contemporary details, will further highlight Amfora’s understated luxury and Mediterranean charm.

The upgrades extend from the standard rooms to the suites, and there are certainly worse places to spend your summer than the balcony of the deluxe two-bedroom penthouse suite. And if you book online, there is a 15% discount on the official website.

These are good times for Hvar tourism, with the important American market the most popular visitor, a statistic which has been boosted by the first direct flights from New York, which means you can now go from the Big Apple to Paradise with a good speedboat transfer in just 10 hours.
