German national airline Lufthansa landed the Embraer 190 yesterday at Pula airport to establish the new route between Frankfurt and Pula.

The flight, which was carrying around ninety passengers onboard, will fly through October 20th, twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, reports Index.hr on April 29, 2017.

On this occasion, director of Pula Airport Svemir Radmilo stressed that this new line is of the utmost importance for the whole of Istria and Istrian tourism.

“In this way, we now enter into the new markets of America and Canada, and to the Far East, for example, China, Korea, and Singapore. These are all destinations that are now currently more accessible to us than they were last week,” said Radmilo, who thanked the representatives of Lufthansa for recognizing Pula as an important destination.

Stressing that tourism makes almost 20 percent of Croatian GDP, Pula Mayor Boris Miletic said it is crucially important to have good connections on the roads, on the sea, and in the air.

“This direct connection between Pula and Frankfurt means a direct connection for Pula with the entire world and all of its destinations. This contributes to the further development of tourism, enhances the quality, and increases tourist arrivals and tourist overnights, giving an extra impulse to the Croatian economy,” said Miletic.

Peter Pullen, Head of Sales for Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe for Lufthansa, recalled that the German national airline was founded in 1953 and has become Europe’s largest passenger air carrier.

“We are the fourth largest airline in the world with 209 destinations in 81 countries. Together with our partners, we operate to more than 410 destinations and based on the number of aircraft in our fleet, we are second in the world,” said Pullen, who expressed his satisfaction with the opening of the new line between Frankfurt and Pula. He also added that apart from connecting Frankfurt, Lufthansa will connect Pula and Munich once a week, on Saturdays, from June 3rd to September 30th.

The Lufthansa Group operates more than 700 aircraft and employs more than 123,000 people around the world. In 2016, 150 million passengers flew with Lufthansa, including its affiliates.
