Being a security guard is one of the most dangerous, and also one of the least paid jobs in Croatia. They have been warning for years that their salaries are exceptionally small, calling on the government to help them and provide them with conditions which will enable them to lead normal lives, reports 24sata.hr on May 18, 2017.
How badly paid the job is has recently been demonstrated by a photograph of one security guard’s salary, which has been published on the Zaštitarstvo RH Facebook page. According to the photo, the security guard received just 2,485 kuna for 200 hours of work in a month.
The post has caused a number of comments from other security guards who were delighted with the move made by their colleague. Some of them also began publishing photos of the ridiculously small number of banknotes they receive each month and with which they have supposed to try to survive until the next pay cheque.
“We simply do not know where and how to spend this enormous amount of money. Fortunately, a security guard does not need a security escort to carry so much money in his pocket.”
“You should send your salary to the government so that they can try to calculate how to survive until the end of the month.”
“Croatia is Absurdistan. Pack your bags and head for Germany or Ireland. Good luck to everyone.”
“Bosses are getting rich, and employees are working for less than the minimal wage. We should all launch a strike, and they can guard the facilities themselves. Security guards must be honourable, healthy, and must not have a single flaw, while employers can break the laws, together with the trade unions.”
However, there are those who say that it is impossible that anyone could have received such a small salary.
“This is less than the minimum wage, so he either has a loan or his bank account has been frozen.”
“This is possible only if one third of his salary goes to loan repayment… or if it is frozen. Come on, be realistic.”
“No company can pay less than the minimum wage for a whole month of work.”
