A British traveler attending a bachelor party in Croatia suffered severe injuries after jumping off a catamaran.
Unfortunately, things did not end well for Scott Simpson from Buckinghamshire who attended a bachelor party on a catamaran in Croatia, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on May 18, 2017.
In an attempt to jump into the sea from the top deck of the catamaran, 29-year-old Simpson slipped and impaled himself on a metal pole – suffering from a punctured lung, several broken ribs, and a broken collarbone.
Fortunately, there were about 10 other members of the bachelor party group on deck to help Simpson as best as they could until medical assistance arrived.
“He impaled himself on the pole, it was gruesome. We had to work together to lift him off. We put him on the deck and tried to stop the bleeding,” said one of the witnesses.
“He lost a lot of blood, it was horrible. We were really worried whether he would survive, it was a scary situation,” said another friend on the catamaran with Simpson.
After the accident, the 29-year-old was taken by speedboat to the nearest island and transferred by helicopter to the hospital in Split. Simpson is currently in the intensive care unit after spending some time in an induced coma.
The Daily Mail even picked up the story on May 17, 2017, and noted that Simpson’s parents are with him in Croatia. Simpson is currently stranded at the hospital in Croatia because his travel insurance will not cover the £15,000 cost to bring him home. Simpson’s lung injury requires him to be taken back to British soil by ambulance. The family has launched a campaign asking for donations.
