Jadranka Kosor to write a book about her time in power and the aftermath.
Former Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor gave a TV interview last night and announced that she was writing a book about the period from 2009 to 2011 when she was the prime minister and the events which happened later, when current HDZ president Karamarko expelled her from the party, reports Index.hr on February 17, 2016.
“I do not want to write a personal book, but a book which will speak objectively about those times. I will focus on the events I took part in, and that was the accession of Croatia to the European Union. I was at the head of the government at the time and I have signed the accession treaty with the EU. I also want to write about what happened with me personally later. Some things are still not known to the public, but there were a lot of things going on we should be proud of”, said Kosor.
“I will wait for the next election and I will probably run. I have been in politics for too long and I think it is always good to have people who have had some experience. Anyone who has been a prime minister has a kind of responsibility to the country until the end of their life”, said Kosor talking about the future plans.
Kosor believes that Tomislav Karamarko will have no opponent for HDZ president at the forthcoming intraparty elections. “It will be interesting to see whether anyone in HDZ would dare to run against Karamarko. It would be hard for anyone to do that, but it would also be good to have more than one candidate”, said the former prime minister, who believes it would be difficult for Andrej Plenković, HDZ’s member of the European Parliament, to decide to run, even though many see him as a candidate. “This is the very last moment for him to start his campaign if he wants to do it.”
Kosor claims that Prime Minister Orešković’s situation with First Deputy Prime Minister Karamarko is similar to her situation with former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, who wanted to have her as a puppet prime minister and govern from behind her. “At the beginning, I was in a difficult position because I had to build my personal authority. Sanader was gone, but he was still an authority figure for ministers just like Karamarko is to these ministers. Orešković must build his authority and clearly show that he is number one. But, this is still a different situation because he was brought from another world. He is not a politician, and reportedly had just three hours to decide whether to accept becoming prime minister. On the other hand, I was a long-time member of the government”, said Kosor.
Kosor also discussed the issue of the dismissal of Security Intelligence Agency director Dragan Lozančić. “Interestingly, the prime minister did not immediately sign his dismissal. So, I was right when I said that Orešković had been humiliated when the President decided by herself to sign the dismissal. However, I believe that Lozančić will be dismissed in the end, since it would be hard for someone to lead the secret service without the support from the President. But the way she did it was wrong, which is clearly demonstrated by Orešković now.”
