Two wineries from Dubrovačko-neretvanska County had great success at the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards that took place in London last week, reports Dubrovniknet.
The championship saw more than 17.000 wine samples, tasted by 219 renowned judges. A total of four medals went to Korta Katarina Winery from Orebić and Crvik Winery from Konavle.
Korta Katarina took three awards: their 2011 Plavac mali and the 2009 Reubens Private Reserve got the silver medal, and their 2015 Pošip was awarded bronze. Ivo Ćilibić of Korta Katarina said he was extremely satisfied by such a success. “We submitted three wines and all of them were awarded medals. We’re more than pleased, especially when it comes to our Plavac. Our Pošip was missing one point to get the silver, so we got the bronze.” said Ćilibić.
Another silver went to Crvik Winery for their 2015 Malvasia dubrovačka Tesoro. The young winemaker Petar Crvik stated this is a result of many years of hard work. “We’ve seen a progress in quality in the last 10 years. I can say this is just the beginning of Dubrovnik wines heading for the top of the world list. That’s my lifelong goal, and it doesn’t happen overnight.” he said.
Siniša Lasan, a sommelier at Proto restaurant in Dubrovnik, was the only Croatian judge at Decanter Awards. He stated this year’s edition was the most successful for Croatian winemakers so far. “More than 90% of submitted wines got awards. I’m more than satisfied by Malvasia dubrovačka and Plavac coming from our county, as they never got such high scores before. I’m appealing to all other winemakers of Dubrovačko-neretvanska County to submit their wines to this world-renowned manifestation next year.” said Lasan.
