The millennium generation, according to market research, will most likely combine travel and gastronomy because 79% of travelers between the ages of 18 and 34 travel to a destination known for their gastronomic offer. According to last year’s Booking.com data, one in 10 (8%) respondents last year traveled due to their love of good food and 7% because of their love of excellent wine. Amongst the younger population, one in 10 people combine their love of fast, street food with travel while only 4% of older passengers combine their love of food and travel. Data shows that the flavors of Asia and South America are among the top ten destinations for food lovers, followed by Greece, Australia and Spain. Sao Paulo with their Brazilian Grill and Tokyo, whose restaurants have gathered more Michelin stars than New York and Paris together, are at the very top of the list.
According to Booking.com, in Zagreb, travelers can enjoy various meat specialities, soups, desserts and strudels which are recognized as the most famous Zagreb speciality, filled with a mixture of domestic cow cheese, cream and eggs.
Zadar offers traditional Dalmatian cooked meals based on fresh vegetables and sea fruits from the Adriatic Sea. Zadar cuisine is recognized by their use of various Mediterranean spices such as rosemary, bay leaf, fennel, basil or sage, and of course domestic olive oil. Travelers are encouraged to try the famous sheep cheese and prosciutto from Posedarje with homemade red wine. After a wonderful meal and sweet traditional cakes, travelers can also enjoy a Maraschino desert liqueur.
Split is the gastronomic capital of Croatia known for its taverns (or as we call them, konobas) and Split specialities are a real example of Dalmatian cuisine. Meat and fish dishes, homemade pasta and various risottos with fruits of the Adriatic Sea, Dalmatian prosciutto, salted sardines, onions and cheese from oil are the staples of Split. In the capital of Split-Dalmatia County, travelers must have a taste of “pašticada” with gnocchi and Dalmatian “kroštula”, accompanied by the sweet dessert wine “prošek.”
