If I had a dollar for every time I was asked about transfers from Split Airport to Hvar Town, I would be much richer than I am today. The most common query concerns late night arrivals to the island, or very early morning departures to make flights not catered to by the early catamarans. While the catamarans provide a very useful service, they go to downtown Split of course, and you then have to negotiate your bus (30 kuna), taxi (300 kuna to whatever they feel like charging) or Uber (about 120 kuna). An additional hassle.
Many of those enquiries come from guests of the leading hotel group, Suncani Hvar, and as one would expect for the island’s best hotels, the VIP concierge service has a range of speedboat transfer options which not only cut out the need to go via the city of Split, but are available 24 hours a day, with a one-hour transfer time from hotel to airport harbour. The boats dock by the seaplane harbour below the airport, and while you can walk the 1km slightly uphill to the airport, Suncani also offers a transfer service to the airport departure terminal, priced at 35 euro for 8 people, 70 euro for 16. And in the summer heat and with luggage to carry, possibly a good investment for some.
So what kind of boats are on offer? Prices vary according to size and type of boat obviously, but here is a selection from the Suncani fleet.
Sea Ray – 9.2m, max 6 passengers, 1200 euro one way.
Cobalt Bowrider, 10m. Max 10 passengers. 1200 euro one way.
Balkan Sea Thunder, 9m. Max 10 passengers. 680 euro one way.
Balkan Sea Thunder, Max 6 passengers, 460 euro one way.
B27 Barracuda 9.60m, Max 10 passengers. 720 euro one way.
The speedboat option is obviously a little more expensive than the ferry, but with a group of friends together, the price comes down quite quickly per person. And there is the other important factor to consider – time. Arrive in style in an hour and hit the beach, or save a few kuna and lose a few hours. And if you want to kick start your unforgettable Hvar holiday with a bang, there is no better entrance to Hvar.
