Amendments to the Criminal Procedure Act (CPC) came into force this week, could Milan Bandić and Zdravko Mamić be in the firing line?
As Index reported on the 29th of July, 2017, amendments to the CPC could bring bad luck for some.
Explained in laymans terms, the new amendments which have been in force since Thursday, mean that many, let us call them ”well-known” people, might just end up returning behind bars by the time the end of summer rolls around, writes Novi List.
Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić, Petar Pripuz, Dinamo’s Zdravko Mamić and his son Mario Mamić are currently at liberty because they have paid their bail. Now, owing to the amendments to the CPC, the bail money will be returned to them, and the courts will have to decide within a period of two months whether or not they will have to return to Remetinec, where all those in Zagreb are detained, or to a so-called “investigative jail”.
The possibility of appeal of course still exists, which means that courts of a higher rank will undoubtedly become burdened by such cases.
