Two Canadairs Extinguish Fire Near Metković

Another close call as a fire close to Metković is extinguished.

Fire have ravaged Dalmatia in recent weeks, from Podgora to Split, Podstrana, Hvar, Čiovo, Konavle and Imotski. The heat is breaking all records and continues to climb yet higher as we enter into yet another hellish heat wave, offering up new possibilities for wildfire outbreaks in the dry, rocky areas of both coastal and inland Dalmatia.

Metković is the latest victim as a fire reportedly broke out yesterday afternoon at around 15:00 close to the town and was, thankfully, extinguished last night before it could become as out of control as those previously seen in Podgora and Split.

The fire was localised by 21:45 by two Canadairs and by 22:00 it was put out. Six hectars of forest and shrub burned but no other damages, material or otherwise have been reported. In addition to the Canadairs who attacked the blaze from the sky, JVP and DVD Metković tackled the flames on the ground.
