The performance of the Battle of Sinj returns this week!
To commemorate Sinj’s defense against the Ottoman invasion in 1715, this year, will be the Battle of Sinj in 1715 will once again be performed in the town!
The performance, which has been organized by the Sinj Tourist Board, with the support of the City of Sinj and Split-Dalmatia County, will be held on 10 August (Thursday) at 20:30 at Pijaca (King Tomislav Square).
“The Battle of Sinj1715″ is performed in two acts and shows the events that preceded the miraculous victory over the Ottomans – the victory that forever marked Croatian history and resulted in the founding of the knight’s game the Alka and the honor of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj.
The performance will be shown in the two main squares of Sinj; the first part will be shown at King Tomislav Square (Pijaca) and the second part at the Square of Dr. Franjo Tudjman.
The first act begins with the dramatic and fierce rush of the Ottomans who try to conquest Sinj, rummaging the church and taking the people into slavery. Mustafa-paša Čelić celebrated in his chariot and announced the easy conquest of the Sinj Fortress where he took a handful of defenders and photo of the Mother of Grace, the most valuable piece the Franciscans brought back from Rama.
The second act of the show will be held at Dr. Franjo Tuđman Square at 21:30. In the second part, the Defense Council, in spite of the helpless situation, does not consider surrendering and decides to defend their city from the far superior and powerful enemy that outnumbered them. According to the tradition, with the help of Our Lady of Sinj, the Ottomans were defeated, and Sinj was freed from the threat of an enemy warrior.
The author of the dramatic re-enactment is Velimir Borković, while the director of the play Rade Perković. The event will be attended by members of the Sinjska puška kazališta, the priests of the Shrine of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj, the Kliški uskoci, the Association of Rešara and Guslara from Otok, the Sinj majorettes, KUD Sinj, the Alka Knights Society, the horses of the Alkar Ergele, and Mr. Davor Ivković who will lead the carriage.
