Authors from 15 countries around the world will be visiting Zagreb and Split in September.
Early September has become the favourite time of year for all literature lovers in Croatia – during 10 days, Zagreb becomes one of the centres of world literature, a place where new books are presented, authors talk about their works and discuss various interesting topics at panels.
Organised by Fraktura Publishing House, the fifth World Literature Festival will be held September 3 – 9 at various places around Zagreb and, for the first time, in Split as well, thanks to the Festival’s partners.
Special focus will be put on German authors, but authors from 15 other countries, including Guatemala, the USA, Finland, Spain, France, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Slovenia, and Macedonia, will also be visiting, so there will surely be something for everyone.
The festival will kick off on September 3, at 8 p.m., when one of the most notable German writers, Daniel Kehlmann, will be talking about his short novel, You Should Have Left.

Other authors who will visit the festival include Christian Kracht, Swiss novelist and journalist, Michael Krüger, German poet and Carl Hanser Publishing House editor and publisher, Chigozie Obioma, Nigerian writer and creative writing professor, Eduardo Halfon, Guatemalan author and one of the best new Latin-American writers, Uli Lust, comic book writer, Marjana Gaponenko, Richard Schuberth, and many other authors.

Writers from the region will include Kristian Novak, Dubravka Ugrešić, Ognjen Spahić, Pavao Pavličić, Olja Savičević Ivančević, Vladimir Tabaševic, and many others.
In cooperation with Goethe Institute, there will also be movie screenings, most of them based on books, including three premieres.
Visitors can also look forward to poetry nights, art programme, and live music – Jelena Popržan, Austrian violinist and singer, and Damir Imamović, sevdalinka singer, will present their new project at the opening night.
