Sibenik is one of the Adriatic’s most underrated destinations, which is slowly becoming recognised. It is not hard to understand why, watching this recently released promo video from the regional county tourism board.
I have seen a lot of Croatian tourism promotion videos over the years – the good, the bad and – occasionally – the very ugly. The point – at least in my opinion – of a promotional video is to show, inform and entice, to give the viewer a snapshot of the destination and arouse his curiosity.
One of the better examples of this is the recently released video from Sibenik-Knin Country, a four-minute view which is well worth the effort. Beautifully shot, it also gives a fantastic overview of the heritage, attractions and diversity of the region, while at the same time educating.
Here you will meet the city with two of Croatia’s 11 UNESCO World Heritage Sites (the second added after the video was made); visit the second largest fortress in Europe; experience a region of genius, from the piano skills of Maksim Mrvica to the basketball wizadry of Drazen Petrovic, the birthplace of the parachute by Faust Vrancic, or the city which was the first in the world with alternating current street lights by Nikola Tesla; a region of national parks – Krka and Kornati – the latter one of the great saliing paradises of Europe.
