What would Komadina do if he became president of SDP?
Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Prefect and a candidate for SDP president Zlatko Komadina gave an interview to Croatian Radio-Television on Sunday and spoke about the upcoming party elections and the current situation in the country, reports tportal.hr on March 7, 2016.
On the eve of elections in SDP, Komadina was sharply critical of former Prime Minister Zoran Milanović. He said that he had not talked with Milanović in private and that their personal contacts were poor. “I do not think that the leader of a party should be aggressive and authoritarian. I am a team player, and a leader is only as good as the people around him”, he said. Asked about the possible return to the party by former President Ivo Josipović and former Minister Mirela Holy, he said that it was hardly possible since they have their own parties now. “But, SDP must leave its door open”, he added.
Commenting on the work of Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković, Komadina said that he did not support him and that the prime minister was not leading the government. “The government is managed by Petrov and Karamarko. It is like a triumvirate, and it cannot be good. You cannot waste energy on learning how to be in a coalition. This government will not last long.” Asked whether he would have been able to come to an agreement with MOST after the elections, Komadina resolutely said “yes”.
He commented on the deep divisions between the left and the right in Croatia and said that politicians should not raise tensions in society with their public speeches and statements. “I believe we should not engage in such political behaviour. What kind of messages do we send to young people? We are dividing and poisoning the society. It is a shame that 70 years after the war we are still talking about the Ustashe and partisans”, he said and further commented on the election campaign. “Such was the advice given by public relations experts, and as a result now we have two distinctive parts of the society”, said Komadina, adding that HDZ was much worse in dividing Croatia than SDP.
Speaking about what will happen if he wins the party elections, he said that Milanović could remain in SDP if he wanted to. He did not give a direct answer to the question about possible reprisals if his wins. “There is no cemetery of my victims”, he said and added that he would choose his associates at the party convention.
