Moro Beach Club Stupe opened at the beginning of the season with a makeover and it seems it has been a hit among sailors and travellers alike, even earning praise from the Lonely Planet.
We would like to think we are ahead of the game at Total Croatia News, and in this case, it seems we were. We wrote about the opening of Moro Beach Club Stupe on May 30th, 2017, predicting it to become a popular destination and it appears we were on the money. The Lonely Planet, one of the most trusted travel sites and guidebooks recently sang praise for Moro Beach Club and the islands Stupe.
Stupe, are actually two small islands Vela and Mala Stupa (Stupe), which falls on the Eastern border of the Korčula Archipelago. The islands are tucked between Korčula and the Pelješac Peninsula, offering stunning views over both. While they are only 2.6 miles from Korčula, the islands are only approachable by boat, making them a sailor’s haven; especially as the club also offers free berths – whether you dine in their restaurant or not.

Part of the beauty of sailing or chartering a yacht, is being able to custom-make your own experience. You can avoid the crowds and find little treasures like this; not to mention, if there is one thing we all love, it is a feeling of exclusivity, which is exactly what Moro Beach Club offers. However, don’t be disheartened, if you aren’t on your own yacht (this time), you can get a water-taxi to Moro Club from Orebić (Peljesac Peninsula) or Korčula.
This quaint little restaurant and bar is fast becoming recognisable on social media by its ‘idyllic sea swing’.

Now, I don’t know about you, but just the image of a swing, makes me close my eyes and transport myself back to my childhood – is there anything as liberating or joyous? Feeling the wind in your face, not a care in the world, the closest thing there was to flying… Well, as an adult, place a rustic swing in the crystal-clear Adriatic, a glass of bubbles in my hand and I think I have my new heaven.

‘The sea swing perfectly embodies Moro Beach’s easy spirit and relaxed summer vibe. This blissful spot couples a restaurant, lounge, cocktail bar and beach, all designed to accentuate the alluring setting of Korčula archipelago, its azure blue sea and stunning nature.’
Well-known chefs Igor Gudac and Matija Kruhonja have created a menu that reflects the seasons, showcasing local ingredients and working with small local suppliers. Pero Lozica, sailor and owner of Moro told the Lonely Planet: ‘We wanted to give something back to Korčula, our native island. Having spent most of our lives elsewhere, Moro Beach Club Stupe was a way of returning to our roots and giving back to the community. We work with local suppliers, from fishermen to wineries, but also local taxi boats…’

Note for sailors: Due to is location at the edge of the Archipelago, the islands are exposed to strong weather, particularly Maestral, Bura and Jugo. The weather is also known to change rapidly; so, sailing to and mooring on Vela Stupe is not necessarily advised for the inexperienced sailor or boater.
