Blue World Insitute posted a video of two whales spotted near Lošinj on their Facebook page.
Blue World Institute, an NGO dedicated to raising environmental awareness and conservation of marine organisms posted photos of two fin whales spotted west of Lošinj on their Facebook page.
“The animals were two adult fin whales whose size was estimated at about 17 and 18 meters. One animal had large multiple scars of a serious injury caused by a boat propeller. Apart from the healed scar, whales looked healthy. During nearly two hours of observation, the animals were swimming with an average speed of about 3-4 knots travelling south. They were diving for about 10-15 minutes while on the surface they spent on average just about one minute before the next dive. During the survey, researchers collected behavioural data, photo identification photos, and sloughed skin for genetic analysis,” the post says.

Fans were thrilled by the video of two giants playing in the water, wishing them happy travels in the comments of the video that has got more than 1,300 likes since it was posted yesterday.
Alen Soldo from the Institute commented on the whales for 24 sata on August 28, 2017.
“Fin whales can grow up to 20 m and can weigh up to 70 t. You normally can’t see them in the Adriatic because they can normally be found in the open ocean. However, it is not unusual for them to wander into the Adriatic, we normally see them every other year.”
This species’ global population estimates range from less than 100,000 to 119,000, so Mr Soldo said he hoped they would find their way back to the open ocean soon because they are not used to being in small bodies of water.
