Marjan Forest Park to Receive a Visitor Center Next Year!

The Ministry of Tourism has awarded 137,000 HRK for this project.

Among the nearly 20 million HRK awarded by the Ministry of Tourism for development projects, the Marjan Forest Park Visitor Center was one of the chosen, reports Dalmatinski Portal on December 8, 2017. 

Marjan Forest Park has received just less than 140,000 HRK for their new visitor center, and as Robert Koharević, the director of the Public Management Facility for Forest Park Marjan told Dalmatinski Portal on December 8, 2017, the center should be open on the Day of Marjan in the coming year.

More than satisfied with the funds, Koharević has explained how they will reconstruct the former substation for the new Visitor Center.

The retail space of more than 21 square meters is easily accessible where immediate communication of staff with visitors, information, presentations and interpretation will take place.

The exact location the center is located, at the entrance to Marjan Park, is one of the busiest zones in the center of Split.

“The goal of the Visitor Center is to be the central point and source of tourist information activities with the purpose of expanding the regional significance. It will be conceived in such a way that through its work it will educate visitors, promote the key attractions of Marjan Forest Park, promote the natural and cultural heritage and promote the activity of tourist and economic capacities,” explains Koharević.

The reconstruction, he adds, runs within the building itself. Rooms will be replaced to provide an adequate surface adapted to innovativeness in interpretation and adaptation to people with disabilities.

The Marjan Forest Park Visitor Center will have an interactive touchscreen, ‘led’ TV and a projection of Marjan on the glass-covered floor.

“The idea is to link the cultural, natural, economic, social and tourist domains in one place through these technologies,” concluded Koharević.
