Flos Olei 2018: Chiavalon Olive Oil Places Among Top Producers in World, Again!

The olive oil of Istria once again dominates Flos Olei.

One thing you may already know about Istria is just how good the olive oil of the region is, and it’s no surprise that this crucial element of the area has quickly become a defining trait of the peninsula around the world. 

With accolades increasingly pouring in, rounds of applause heard around the world and the undivided approval of olive oil greats, Istria has once again confirmed their spot at the top of the world’s best olive oil with their admission in Flos Olei’s 2018 guide. 

Now, if you’ve been following Total Croatia News for at least the last year, you’ll know that we haven’t been shy of shining our praises for Istria’s best – consider this another nod add we add to our list.

Flos Olei, the first and most respected guide to the best olive oils in the world, premiered their 2018 edition in the center of Rome on December 9, 2017. While over 500 world producers from 50 countries around the world participated in the event, 75 of them were from Istria, affirming the region the best olive-growing region in the world – again, reports Jutarnji List on December 9, 2017. 

But that’s not all. 

Two Istrian olive oils in particular placed among the very top of the world’s best at Flos Olei’s 2018 launch at the luxurious Westin Excelsior in Rome. These two include Chiavalon Olive Oil and O.P.G. Eno Zubin in Umag. 

Chiavalon, a member of Flos Olei’s prestigious list for years, received 95 out of a possible 100 points in this year’s international guide and Eno Zubin, an olive oil producer in Buščina near Umag, achieved 97 out of 100 points.

Among his colleagues from the leading olive-growing countries of the world, Zubin produces some of the smallest quantities – about 48 hectoliters of organic olive oil per year. While, for example, a Spanish producer in Rome, Casas de Hualdo from Castilla-La Mancha, produces up to 7,642 hectoliters of oil. 

“We’ve already put our oil out there, and for example, in France. With our modest amounts compared to other giants, we are happy with our placement. And what will be in two or three years, we’ll see. I think that the solution will be in oil exports because every year we have more and more oil,” said Zubin.

Croatian Ambassador to Italy Jasen Mesić is exceptionally pleased that Croatia has come alongside strong gastronomic regions such as Italy and Spain, which means a lot for the promotion of the country.

Bravo to Chiavalon and O.P.G. Enio Zubin! This is the second year in a row that Istria has been named the best olive oil region in the world!
