Šibenik’s Pelegrini and Dubrovnik’s 360º restaurant have been awarded a Michelin star!
Šibenik’s famous restaurant Pelegrini and Dubrovnik’s 360º are the newest restaurants in the country to be awarded one Michelin star, while 24 new Croatian restaurants have been recommended with the Michelin ‘spoon’ and ‘fork’ rating, announced the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) and Slobodna Dalmacija on Thursday, March 1, 2018.
This is the result of a tour by professional Michelin inspectors who visited restaurants throughout the country in 2017, said HTZ in the press release. A new guide to Croatia has been published on Michelin’s site, the world’s most significant and prestigious restaurant guide.
With this year’s selection, Croatia has three Michelin starred restaurants and 55 restaurants with Michelin recommendations. This year, we saw Michelin award the first Bib Gourmand, which was given to four restaurants in Croatia: Konoba Mate (Korčula), Danube (Ilok), Vuglec Breg (Krapina) and Konoba Fetivi (Split). Bib Gourmand is a label awarded to restaurants that offer quality menus at affordable prices.
Additionally, apart from Istria, Dubrovnik and Zagreb, which were selected in Michelin’s map last year, this year included many other Croatian destinations like Šibenik, Split, Ilok, Korčula, Krapina, Lovran, Osijek, Varaždin, Velika Gorica, Zadar and others. HTZ’s listing of new restaurants in Michelin’s selection is assessed by a strong incentive for further continuous improvement of the local gastronomic scene, but also by the tremendous global promotion of Croatia as a top gourmet destination. Michelin starred the first restaurant in Croatia, Monte in Rovinj, in 2017. Monte received one Michelin star, which they retained for 2018.
“Croatia is on the gastronomic chart of the world, which we certainly deserve. The new Michelin stars and recommendations of Croatian restaurants are proof that our gastronomic scene meets very demanding international quality criteria. Michelin is a worldwide synonym for excellence in gastronomy, and its labels offer great promotional potential that the destination of the chosen restaurants has entered the exclusive circle of the best restaurants in the world, and can be valued,” said HTZ director Kristijan Staničić.
“The Croatian National Tourist Board will continue to carry out numerous activities with the aim of positioning our country as an attractive tourist destination with a rich gastronomic offer. I would like to express my sincere congratulations to all the restaurants, especially the owners and staff of the Pelegrini restaurant, 360º and Monte, whose efforts and creativity have been recognized by Michelin’s inspectors,” Staničić concluded.
