ZAGREB, March 7, 2018 – MP Ante Pranić of the opposition MOST party announced on Wednesday that he and his party colleague Miro Bulj would address a proposal to the government to establish a council for the Dalmatian hinterland in a bid to facilitate the development of the region and halt large-scale emigration.
Pranjić, who serves as the mayor of Vrgorac (90 kilometres east of Split), warned that some 26,500 people had left the Dalmatinska Zagora region in the last few years and, according to the 2011 census, 143,000 lived in the region.
Pranjić suggested that the future council should consist of 13 cabinet ministers, two county prefects, 36 mayors, representatives of development agencies and university professors.
The larger towns in the hinterland include Knin, Drniš, Vrlika, Sinj, Vrgorac, Trilj and Imotski.
