Aquafest begins in Varaždinske Toplice today!
Did you know that in today’s Varaždinske Toplice, the 1st and 4th-century Roman settlement Aquae Iasae was found near the healing water thermal springs? And that today, it is one of the best-preserved sites in Croatia?

To pay homage to the long tradition of the thermal baths, Varaždinke Toplice kicks off June each year with Aquafest. An event that strives to revive the tradition of their builders, the Romans, each year at the archaeological site of the old Roman baths, costumed groups from ancient Roman provinces create an exciting event for locals and tourists.

Costumed guests from Dalmatia and Slovenia, including Roman legions, Diocletian’s Legion and Poetovio LXIX, the Society for the Roman Empire in Culture Ptuj and the Andautonia Association from Šćitarjeva present ancient gastronomy, gladiator battles, and military formations, while street entertainers and belly dancers take visitors to the evening’s surprise concert.
