The busy summer season in Split is confirmed once more as the airport handles their millionth passenger.

Over the hit weekend which saw over 48,000 passengers and 200 aircraft, Split Airport has also welcomed its millionth passenger! The second millionth passenger to the airport is anticipated for August, while the record third millionth is projected by the end of the year, reports Ex Yu Aviation on July 2, 2018.

It’s no surprise Split Airport is the third busiest airport in the former Yugoslavia, as the Dalmatian hub welcomes passengers from all over the world. So far in 2018, the airport has seen a growth of 15.7%! If you recall, Split was even ahead of Zagreb for many months last year.

The General Manager of Split Airport, Lukša Novak, said for Ex Yu Aviation: “It took us ten years to grow from one million to two million travelers. Before the war, the airport was handling around a million passengers per year. However, it took us just three years to increase our figures from two million travelers to 2.8 million. In 2018 we will handle three million passengers”.

Split Airport, however, has no intentions of becoming the busiest airport in the country.

“We want to be an effective regional airport. We need to work to stimulate traffic in the winter months”, Novak said.
