With the completion of the project worth over 15 million kuna, Split will be one step closer to becoming the smart city it desires.
The City of Split and Partners, within the first Call of the Interreg – Central Europe Program, has conducted the CitiEnGo “Cities for a Good Energy Governance” project since June 2016, which was approved in April of the same year. The total budget of the project is 15,264,000.00 kuna, of which the City of Split funded 1,523,000.00 kuna. The project lasts until May 2019, reports Dalmacija Danas on July 9, 2018.
The City of Split is one of ten partners in the CitiEnGov project, which is the leading partner of the development company SIPRO Ferrara from Italy. Partners include Ludwigsburg from Germany, Bydgoszcz and Grodzisk from Poland, SINERGIS energy agencies from Italy, WEIZ from Austria, GOLEA and LEAG from Slovenia, and HBMO from Hungary.
The program’s priority is for cities and regions in Central Europe to create low carbon emissions, with the specific goal to develop locally sustainable energy strategies. It should be noted that this project idea was chosen among the top 35 after two approval phases – in the first among 640 projects and in the second among 91 projects.
The CitiEnGov project has enabled the City of Split to set up modern and energy-efficient, smart public lighting in Split at Petra Preradovića Walkway, Put Firule, Spinčićeva Street and Šalata Kalafata. A total of 82 new LED lamps will be installed with built-in control modules to control each lamp individually by remote control. The module communicates via a GSM network with a computer system that is available to city administration employees in charge of public lighting. The system is available through a computer, tablet or mobile phone 24 hours a day. It is also possible to display the state of the lights and their lighting position. The system allows centralized continuous remote control and lighting control, for groups and individually, with an unlimited number of changes overnight, light intensity control ranging from 0% to 100%, and two-way communication on the status of a particular lamp: consumption information in the selected period for one or for a group of lamps and the current status of each lamp.
The value of the installed equipment and works totaled is 535,950.00 kuna, 85% of which was financed by the European Regional Development Fund, 9% by the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union funds and 6% by the City of Split. It is estimated that the annual savings from this project for 82 lamps will amount to about 60,000.00 kuna. CO₂ will also be reduced by 11.5 tons per year.
The built-in lamps conform to Croatian and European road lighting standards and have IP66 protection against atmospheric influences. They are also in compliance with the Law on Light Dust Protection, and the color temperature of the light is 3000K. The contractor (Elos d.o.o.) has submitted a 10-year guarantee for the delivered equipment, which also leads to a reduction in maintenance costs. This project enables the City of Split to use energy efficiency and renewable energy sources as a step towards the more efficient management of energy resources Split has, as well as achieving energy savings through energy efficiency measures. This also brings Split one step closer to the ultimate goal – a Smart City.
